The relationship between religion and socialism seems to be one of contradiction. But appearances are deceptive, and in this case most people are deceived by the perception. Here is a shocker, socialism is a form of religion for most of its believers. If fills the same need to explain the unexplainable and to elevate the believer’s worth and self esteem. Let us take a walk on the wings of objective meaning to discover the truth.
What is a religion?
the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or any such system of belief and worship:

A system of belief. Not a system based on proven facts, or known quantities; but on a faith in an explanation of the unknown.
Socialism is a political theory based on the assumption that humans are fundamentally social creatures who will always work toward a social rather then a personal goal if given the opportunity. Karl Marx, The Communist Manifesto.http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/communist-manifesto/
The point is that the basis of socialism, (and communism) is a theory of human behavior. A system based not on fact but on belief. Marx defined religion as the opiate of the people, but he attempted to merely replace one drug with another. Marx’s drug was more dangerous then the original; but still a drug.
This conclusion leads to several important questions. I will attempt to answer some of those questions, but only some.
What is it in the nature of humans that requires a belief system to explain the unknown? What is it in our nature that makes us demand that others believe as we do?
Is America a unique answer, a more evolved answer to this fundamental element of human nature?
Are socialists fundamentally un-American? Are Socialists a danger to America?
Is proselytism anti-American as well?
