Sin taxes are sumptuary taxes, which are taxes levied on certain social goods such as tobacco and alcohol. Democrats have used this type of taxation for years to try and modify your behavior into something that fits their image of your. Another word for this arrogance is social engineering. So are you comfortable with that lost of freedom? As an American you should not be.
The justification Democrats use to create a "sin tax" is to alleviate the costs of special projects and aid receding economies without really hurting anyone. The ultimate "sin tax" is Obama's proposal to tax the successful, those making more then $250k to redistribute the wealth to the poor. According to Obama it is a sin to be too successful. As he demeaning explained to Joe the plumber the successful should be ashamed of being good at what they do when others are not as productive or good. Typical socialist spin.
But any American should be insulted by such socialist drivel. Sadly too many Americans were greedy for the "hope" of taking their neighbor's wealth and voted for our first truly illegitimate president. Those who voted for Obama deserve to suffer now, and those who did not are perfectly justified in aggravating that suffering as payback.
Sin taxes are a big part of that payback, because the wealthy can afford to sin; and probably would rather sin then pay their wealth in capital gains taxes. Note that these taxes are coming in to effect across America as a response to an uncertain economy and failing market.
One example is our current taxes on "drugs". Taxes on alcohol, cigarettes, and even fatty sugary foods imposes a greater burden on those with less disposable income. These are the Americans who will be forced to sacrifice their personal freedom of choice to the gristmill of the despotism of Democrats. The only way to oppose despots like Obama and Pelosi is to create black markets.
So much for the hope promised by Obama. His hope is your enslavement.
